Saturday February 7th, 1:00 - 4:00 PM @ Westside Market
Georgi McKinney of Curio West, Booth 409 will be leading the class.
This class will be designed for beginners (those who have purchased a sewing machine but have yet to use it) and those who want a better understanding of their sewing machines. The focus will be on building confidence and foundational skills rather than completing a complex project. Topics covered will include:
*How to properly set up and operate a home sewing machine. (Each person will be responsible to bring their own machine)
*How to thread a machine and wind a bobbin
*Adjusting tension and stitch length
*Overview of essential sewing tools and their uses. (tape measures, rulers, cutting tools, rotary cutter, pens, clips, marking tools etc.)
*Explanation and demonstration of common presser feet including the zipper foot.
*General discussion of reading patterns and common pattern symbols
*Understanding sewing machine needles and when to use different types
*Introduction to different fabric types and how they behave when sewn.
*Safety and best practices
Each participant will be required to bring their own sewing machine. Even though this class is tailored to those who already own a machine, the class can be offered to those without a machine who are trying to decide if they are ready to take the next step and purchase one. The class will be structured, approachable, and beginner-friendly, with plenty of time for questions.
